Intimate Cliffside Wedding With Stunning Views

Perched on a cliff above the dramatic Big Sur coastline, we exchanged vows in front of our parents, siblings, niece, and newborn nephew,” the bride said. It was everything the couple wanted, including an incredible coastal setting with their nearest and dearest along to celebrate. Sally Pinera told the story of the day through her lens and every image is one perfect moment after the next.

Words by the bride… Both born and raised in Vancouver, Evan and I feel most at home where the water laps the land. We had long held that an intimate coastal ceremony, with our immediate families, in a place where we could soak up each other’s company, eat, drink, and be merry (and married!), was truest to us as a couple.

We met serendipitously seven years ago at a local dive bar, where I spotted Ev from across the room. Mere minutes later, I walked over to tell him that he looked “so familiar” (he did!). Convinced it was nothing more than a conventional pick-up line, Ev nonetheless entertained the sentiment and offered me a drink. Boy, did I hope it would be the first of many more.

Four years later, we moved abroad to Luxembourg to fulfill our work and wanderlust dreams. Before our second summer’s end, Ev planned a trip to the Algarve, Portugal. But, when we boarded the plane, my mind was so preoccupied with finishing a project that I neglected to realize that he hadn’t been in his seat for 30 minutes. Slowly, I started to hear music on the speakers, and I remember thinking how I had never heard RyanAir broadcast in-flight entertainment. A few moments later, realizing that it was Evan’s voice behind the instrument, I glanced up and saw him walking down the aisle, ukulele in hand, singing a song he had wrote for me. Everyone began clapping along, and when he arrived at my seat, he got down on bended knee and proposed. Thinking about that moment still stops time.

A year later, Evan was offered an exciting role with his firm in San Francisco, and I was thrilled to finish my Ph.D. from California. With only six months left in Luxembourg, we repurposed our wedding plans, and soon Big Sur became our inspiration and our backdrop.

On October 24, perched on a cliff above the dramatic Big Sur coastline, we exchanged vows in front of our parents, siblings (my sister was my MoH, and Ev’s brothers his groomsmen), niece (our flower girl) and newborn nephew. Following the ceremony, we proceeded to Pfeiffer Beach for photos, and finished the day the back at home, in the best way we know how: dinner, dessert (celebration cake, to be sure!), and dancing under a canopy of stars. I go back to that evening often, reliving the unforgettable speeches, the arresting views of the Pacific, and the sounds of glasses clinking, waves crashing, and our closest laughing.

Our incredible chef, Jamie Jarrard, prepared indelible dishes using only local, organic, and seasonal ingredients, sourced primarily from Big Sur’s bountiful farm markets. Our florist, Christine Cater, also sourced florals from California, and her incomparable talent could have only been outdone by her generosity, grace, and gregarious spirit.

The rest of our sunny Big Sur days were spent exploring outside, and we capped off the southern part of our stay with a 1:00 am dip at the Esalen hot springs. Not before long, we were in Carmel and Sonoma, planning how we could do it all over again. It was a week we could never forget, and we are profoundly grateful to have it filled with everyone and everything we love most.

Big Sur Engagement After a Long Distance Love Affair

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/Q6FaAFn_ZI4/

This is my kind of e-sesh… bare feet in the sand, unreal views that will take your breath away and the sweetest hand-holding. Not to mention, this gorgeous Bride-to-be is on our west coast team. A little extra excuse to pop the bubbly and sit with this gallery from Christine Donee for a while longer. Also, don’t miss her charming story below of how they met!

From the Bride-to-be… Meeting in remote destinations, red-eye flights, and a sense of adventure was how Nick and I started our relationship five years ago. We dated for three years long distance between New York City (where I was an entertainment editor) and Hawaii (where Nick worked at Pearl Harbor), and somewhere between all the distance between us we just kept getting closer.

It only seemed fitting when Nick proposed in one of my favorite places in New York City’s Central Park, that we take engagement photos in one of our favorite destinations together — Big Sur, California. The rugged coastline, sweeping views of the Pacific, lush green bluffs, and the wild open of the California air were definitely calling. Thankfully, our incredible photographer Christine Donee was up for the adventure!

The early part of the day was rainy and blustery and as Nick and I drove the 5 hours up California’s Highway 1 in order to meet Christine in a remote section near Julia Pfeiffer State Park “just in time for magic hour” the hour was looking less than magical with storm clouds rolling in. And then in a twist of pure west coast magic, the storm clouds scattered away and we were lucky enough to get 1 hour of beautiful Big Sur weather for shots along the beaches and bluffs.

And then just like that we were off again, with me jetting off on a red-eye to Nashville to be on the red carpet at the CMA Awards the next morning and Nick headed to Los Angeles.

We’re so grateful to Christine for being able to capture this magic moment, where for a little while, time and distance seemed to stand still. We’re getting hitched in spring in 2017 in the equally gorgeous destination of Santa Ynez, California.

An Epic Wedding Ceremony Set Cliffside!

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/EQX-ag3gHBs/

From destination wedding plans in Italy to a simple elopement at city hall, Mike and Trinh settled on a last-minute compromise with an intimate celebration on the cliffs of Big Sur, California. They shared vows in front of those they love most with ocean views for as far as the eye can see. Thanks to Jessica Kay for an entire gallery waiting in The Vault.

From the Bride…Originally I had different wedding plans from having the wedding in the coast of Italy to just eloping at San Francisco city hall. Two months before our wedding date, we compromised and decided to have it in Big Sur, California which is about a 3 hour drive from where we currently reside. Mike and I have traveled the world together and lived in several different cities before Mike proposed in NorCal where he was born and raised in a small town.

I am an artist and nature gal at heart, my vision for our wedding was to incorporate as much nature and us in there as possible. Big Sur has captured my heart long ago when we first visited, she has her unique beauty and a sense of adventure like myself. Big Sur reminded me of my adventures around the world, living on the edge, and trekking to many mountains including Machu Picchu and Mount Everest. Although, I’ve never been to Point 16 before, when I saw the photos of the venue online I knew that I wanted our wedding ceremony to be on that point overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean. Our love story has been about adventures, taking risks, and making sacrifices and I think that’s what keeps it all exciting and we’re still very much in love since day one.

Although I am proud to be Vietnamese American, many days of my life was spent living and working in Europe. I’ve always admired French and Italian artists along with their culture and aesthetics. I wanted to incorporate a Tuscany garden feel, Greek romance, and French countryside and California laid back to the dinner table which included old clay pots filled with olive branches and few florals, macaroons for take away gifts, and name cards handwritten in watercolor by me. My wedding designer Joy Nicolas helped carried out the rest of my vision, and I couldn’t have done it without her.

Growing up I enjoyed reading Greek methodology, and in late 2000s I visited a few parts of Greece and loved it there too. I created the design for my dress which was influence by Grecian clothing. My vision of my dress came to life thanks to my friend Judy from Julee Chic Bridal based in San Jose, CA. I tried on so many dresses, I’m very petite, and I didn’t have much time to keep looking for dresses so I simply wanted to have one custom made.

Everyone enjoyed the organic food that was locally sourced by our caterer Cheri and prepared right there at the outdoor kitchen. The view was amazing according to everyone. On a normal day, this part of Big Sur is sunny with a nice breeze. However, recently the big fire has been burning over 100k acre of the forest two weeks prior to our wedding left a haze which also left a very beautiful sunset for our sunset photos. In the end all we have left are photographs, which were captured by Jessica Kay Photography perfectly.
