Escape to Charleston for a Summery Wedding with a Pop of Color

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/cuhiy4BGCLk/

The pretty pink buildings of Charleston are the perfect backdrop for a Summer wedding; especially one filled with gorgeous pops of color like this inspiration masterminded by Cheers Darling Events and Lisa Zeising for Abby Jui. That color comes in the form of bright peonies, anemones and a whole wall of florals and greenery crafted by Frampton’s Flowers. See how romantic lace gowns and brightly hued southern charm can go hand in hand with even more in the vault!

Taking inspiration from the bright, light summer, we escaped to Charleston to bring pops of color and rays of gorgeous light to life. Couples from across the country (and world!) flock to Charleston, South Carolina to share southern charm, warm weather, beautiful views and amazing food with their guests from far and wide. Knowing the city, we wanted the day to feel bright and welcoming – highlighting the best elements of the Holy City. Rich green palms, white wash chairs, pops of bright, lush blooms gave life and fun to the details – reflecting the “feeling” of Charleston. To beat the heat – homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches from Swank Desserts. Frampton’s Flowers brought only the brightest of blooms – peonies, anemones and more! Only the warmest of Southern welcome’s would do for the guests – A Signature Welcome curated the most beautiful basket filled with favorites from the city – local treats, candles and more. Reflecting on the traditional, southern side of the area – we incorporated a heirloom style ring from Croghan’s and lace in the wedding gown. Charleston destination clients find the fun balance between southern charm and sassy, modern twists! We wanted to show what the Charleston bride is looking for. A mix between their true southern traditntal roots but with a little fun and sass!

Pretty in Pink Wine-Country Wedding Inspo

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/ZhOPX8Ax668/

I could attempt to describe the heart behind this inspiration shoot, but I’m pretty certain the amazing photographer, Christine Donee said it best. “Blending modern designs, like the bubble gum backdrop, with the natural environment of the vineyard allowed us to find that perfect balance of femininity and edge.” Creative partners like Page BeautyEllamah, Casa de Perrin, Found Vintage Rentals, and many more brought that sentiment to life and we’re so ready to devour every last image.

“I believe in pink.” – Audrey Hepburn

Inspired by the jaw-dropping garden roses that were in season, we wanted to create a fresh take on incorporating pink hues with your wedding day style. Blending modern designs, like the bubble-gum backdrop, with the natural environment of the vineyard allowed us to find that perfect balance of femininity and edge.

Jessica of Ellamah was able to create playful designs by combining pops of pink to the darker, more rustic foliage of the season. These pink-infused beauties worked with the venue’s natural environment – so as not to look out of place – with hints of dark blue berries as a nod to the lush grapes in the vineyard.

From the bright pink backdrop to the subtle shade of blush in the invitation suite, we incorporated different hues into every moment. In other words, we let our love for pink run wild!

7 Things Your Bridal Consultant Should Tell You

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/GbVq-vr2WJw/

From bridal consultant to blushing bride; I have walked in both shoes. After working with hundreds of brides, steaming thousands of dresses, and consoling countless over-emotional MOB’s (Mother of the Bride), I learned what it takes to be a great bridal consultant. I juggled brides of all shapes, sizes, budgets, and emotions, and sold them the dress of their dreams. During that time, I learned what a huge difference the right bridal consultant can make and here’s exactly what they should tell you at your appointment…

“You Look Beautiful”

Wedding dress shopping can bring out insecurities in any bride. Feeling insecure is a common emotion to have, however the appointment should leave you feeling confident and beautiful. The right bridal consultant will recognize the features that make you unique and beautiful and she will not only find a dress to accentuate those features; she will vocalize that to you.

“You Should Try Something New”

It’s common for a bride to be so set on a dress style before she has even walked into a bridal salon. That can be helpful for the appointment, however the right bridal consultant will push you out of your comfort zone and encourage you to try something a little different. You would be surprised at how many brides end up saying “yes” to a dress that’s opposite of what they originally thought they wanted.

“The Price of the Dress is…”

Some brides save up for their wedding dress for years. Others; their Dad pays in full on the spot. No matter where you are financially, your bridal consultant should be very honest with you about the price of a dress. If you want to try on a dress that is out of our budget, your bridal consultant should kindly tell you so that you are mentally prepared. A bridal consultant is not there to trick you or make you feel bad. She should be making this financial decision as easy as she can for you.

“Tell Me How You’re Feeling”

There are times in an appointment where your Mom will not stop crying about how beautiful you look, your Sister is making passive aggressive comments, and your Grandma is noticing (and criticizing) your tattoo for the first time (sorry Grandma)! So when a bridal consultant is alone with you in the dressing room, she should catch on to your emotions and ask you how you’re feeling. With so many exciting, and nerve-wracking emotions; someone needs to help you calm down when the entourage is getting exhausting, and who better to do it than the consultant.

“It’s Time to Stop Looking”

Even after you have tried on a dress that you love, you may feel the need to keep looking. This can be a slippery slope and cause you to become more and more confused about which dress you like the best. I remember my boss finally telling an overwhelmed bride that she needed to stop. When you find a dress you love, (similar to when you find a significant other that you love) you do not keep looking. You may like characteristics in another dress (or person) but that does not mean you need to keep shopping around. When you have found the one you truly love, let that be the one.

“This is How the Dress Bustles”

Trumpet, ball gown, sheath, or mermaid… each silhouette bustles a little differently. Your bridal consultant knows how each dress shape bustles and she should be able to show you at your appointment. The bustle can make the dress look different in the back so it is important for you to know exactly how the dress will look at each moment of your wedding.

“Here’s What to Expect Post Purchase…”

Each bridal salon has specific rules and details you will need to know after you have put the deposit down on your dress. Some have rules of when the full payment is due, others specify whether or not they will store the dress for you once the dress arrives, and whether or not they offer alterations services. No matter the rules and expectations, you will want to make sure you’re fully aware so that there are no surprises months later.

Shopping for a wedding dress is a special and exciting time for every bride. The right bridal consultant will make you feel prepared and beautiful, all while keeping the end goal in mind; helping you marry the person of your dreams.

The Scoop On Trunk Shows

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/jGdYGR5jvEo/

The phrase “trunk show” can be tossed around quite a bit in the world of wedding dresses, but if you’re just starting out on your gown search, let’s think of it as a magic word. Trunk shows allow you to view an entire collection by one designer you may not otherwise have the chance to see. And bonus – be granted a pretty solid discount along with it! Read on for the ins and outs of trunk shows and how to reap their many benefits.

Do Your Homework

You’ve gotten engaged – check that off the list. You may have already secured a venue and maybe even gotten a photographer. Wherever you’re at in your planning, it’s never too early to start hunting down the perfect dress. Start from the comfort of your own phone! Pinterest and Instagram are great tools to find endless styles, organize dresses you like and trace them back to their original designer.

Something to watch out for: images on Pinterest can often be mislabeled after so much re-pinning, so cross-reference them on the designer’s website. Once you’ve found a few styles you love from a handful of designers, head over to Instagram and give their account a follow to get the full feel for their vibe and aesthetic. It could turn out that you thought you liked boho, but the rest of their collection is a little too non-traditional, so maybe vintage-inspired is more your speed.

Scout the Shows

Start by searching online for bridal boutiques that are near you or near where you’ll be shopping. Check if they carry the designers you want and if they have any upcoming trunk shows. Or, you can go straight to the source. Most designers have a list of their stockists and retailers on their website according to location and even post their trunk show schedule. While on their site, do a bit of research on where the brand is based, the price-point, and gown lead-time.

Once you find some to attend, make a booking through the stockists themselves. Keep an eye on Instagram accounts for both parties; trunk shows in the coming weeks will be posted!

Shop + Save

Now that you’ve made it to the trunk show, you’re ready to reap the benefits. This is your chance to view a full collection (and possibly additional new styles) that the boutique may not carry year-round. This may not sound as thrilling if you’re based in a major metropolis and the designer’s showroom is right down the street, but if you live in smaller town or another country, you have the opportunity to see collections from brands all over the world.

Another great benefit: because you have a trunk show appointment, if you purchase your gown that day, you’ll get a discount! These are typically between 10-15% but vary per designer. Think about it – those savings can go right back into the wedding budget.

Added Perks

A major pro of trunk shows is that most, if not all, are attended by a brand representative. Occasionally, the designer themselves may be present to work with brides and this is a simply an unbeatable opportunity to find your dress with help from the people who actually created the gowns. Questions such as the availability of extra fabric or customizations, if rush fees apply, and styling tips can be answered directly from the source!

Trunk shows are getting more and more popular with designers and stockists alike. They’re such a win for everyone! Designers get to spread their brand and meet more customers, and brides to get a chance to see a full collection they otherwise wouldn’t have. Whether you’re a bride on a budget scoping out those discounts, or a hopeless romantic with your heart set a single designer since forever, trunk shows are an amazing way to make dress shopping work for you!

This Wedding Perfectly Embodies Timeless Romance

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/d5x1H9R9Kf4/

Claire and Christopher got married in the bustling city of Hong Kong, so their wish for an ultra romantic, rustic chic wedding was quite a tall order. Luckily they found just the right venue and thoughtfully designed every detail – from fashion to flowers and beyond – to reflect that vision. Of course, their amazing vendor crew rose to the occasion and Hilary Chan + AP Studio captured every moment.

Please upgrade your browser

From the bride, Claire… I love rustic country style which is difficult to find in a modern city like Hong Kong. So Hong Kong Country club is the best location for us with that stunning panoramic view of the South Ocean!

I felt the wedding is more of a romantic affair, so I chose a lace mermaid wedding dress from Monique L’huillier. The beautiful floral details and florets on the dress itself made a perfect match to the floral aisle entrance at Hong Kong Country Club. For the reception dress, I wanted something reflective of my own energetic personality so I chose a dress that was a light fabric and allowed me to run around and socialize with our guests.

I wanted my bridesmaids to have a very chic & feminine look on the day. Personally, I like soft colors like blush and nude, but to create that chic look I asked my tailor to customize the structures on the bridesmaid dresses and include structural fabrics as opposed to traditional bridesmaid dresses.

For the outdoor ceremony, I asked my florist to create sleek floral crowns alongside beautiful bridesmaids bouquets of blush and ivory to add that little floral detail when they all walked down the aisle with me. It was such a soft & romantic moment!

Pop the Question to Your Bridesmaids with These 6 Chic DIY Ideas

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/siTuatXmlnQ/

An engagement all starts with that one simple yet magical question: “Will you marry me?” And while these four words will undoubtedly form the most significant question your groom will ever ask, it is actually only the first of many proposals that will define this beautiful season of your life! Before long, after the initial excitement and surprise has worn off, you (as a newly minted bride-to-be) will begin to realize you have one pretty major question to pop yourself!

Yes, we’re talking about your bridesmaids. These are the girls that have seen you through all of your ups and downs that life has to offer. They have been there to support you through your struggles, and to celebrate you through your successes. You, of course, want to invite them to share in your special day in a way that they will remember forever. But if you find that you are drawing a blank on the perfect way to pop the question to your girls, no worries! We have rounded up 6 of the chicest ways to ask your besties to be there for you, and the best part is, they are all fun, unique, and completely DIY status!

Curate a Custom Goodie Box

Assembling a custom bridesmaid box from scratch can be the ultimate way to ask your friends to come along for your wedding ride. Not only can you personalize this gift depending on each girl’s individual personality, but it is also a great shipping-friendly option for those pals who live out of town. Throw in items such as your favorite bottle of wine, monogrammed knick-knacks like tumblers and ring trays, jewelry to wear on the day-of, or even something as simple as paint chips representing your wedding colors.

Say it with Champagne

Sometimes the best way to pop the question is none other than popping open some fresh, crisp bubbly! Gifting a bottle (or mini bottles) of your preferred champs to your favorites is a light-hearted, classy, and celebratory gesture that will most definitely get your friends on board with the wedding vibes. And if you want to add a little more of a DIY touch, hit up the pages of Etsy for custom-made champagne labels, available in an entire range of designs and easily applied to any glass bottle. Your maids will love to show off their own personalized bottles as they enjoy champagne specifically chosen by you.

Put a Pen to Paper

What is more DIY than writing a lovely note to each one of your gals on beautiful stationary? Not only is this route super glam and traditional, but it also lets you express your gratitude in a way that is genuine and truly from the heart. Including funny memories, inside jokes, and other special reasons about why she is so important to you will help to make this handwritten ‘proposal’ note one-of-a-kind. Plus, it will serve as an amazing wedding souvenir that your friend can cherish forever.

Plan a Luxe Surprise

If you are able to swing it (and are good at keeping a secret), plan an enjoyable excursion so you can pop the question to all of your bridesmaids at the same time. This is the best way to create a shared experience that you are all guaranteed to rave about for months to come. Whether you want to host a quaint Sunday brunch at home, schedule a full-on spa day, or even organize an elegant group dinner at your favorite local hot-spot, the sky is the limit when it comes to planning a luxe surprise.

Sweet Treats for the Win

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t have a sweet tooth? Presenting your maids with a scrumptious sweet treat is always a popular tactic when asking the big question. Whether it is an iced cupcake made in your own kitchen, an adorably decorated batch of custom cookies from a chic bakery, or even a mini bag of rosé gummie bears, there is always something for everyone when it comes to sugar.

If All Else Fails, Confetti!

And if you are still finding yourself stumped on swanky ways to pop the question to your closest gal pals, remember that you can never go wrong with confetti! It is bright, shiny, and always gets people in the mood to celebrate. Stuff some party confetti in an envelope along with your handwritten letter, or in your specially curated goodie box for an added surprise. In the end, no matter what way you decide to ask your best girls, unwrapping any of these chic options will certainly induce tons of smiles and excitement, and it will absolutely set the tone for the best time of your life!

4 Ways to Include Every Kind of Mom in Wedding Planning

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/PLCwfmoFAjI/

“I think you need a grand five tier cake.” I sat staring, open-mouthed, at my usually laid-back mom. This was the same woman who, through the florist and caterer meeting had stayed largely silent, saying “whatever you like!” The baker did the math on a napkin for us – the cake my mother was suggesting was 450 pieces of cake to our 120 guests. Rest assured, we ultimately found a cake compromise. I was surprised, but maybe I should have seen this coming – my mom is French and I know how that country feels about desserts.

Having any loving relative involved in this special time is a huge blessing. The fond memories you’ll make by having these women at your side while you embark on this new adventure will be treasured – but there are bound to be times when you all differ in opinion. So, to help you navigate the mama-minefield, we’re outlining four different mom styles, and how to involve them in your planning process while staying sane.

The Traditionalist

Some women are bound to care more about adhering to tradition, whatever that may be for their family. It gets even harder when families bring different sets of traditions to the table. If these wishes don’t necessarily fit with your modern vision for the day, the best advice is to find a way to honor each family member, without sacrificing your own vision. Find out what your mother cares about and pick something you’re comfortable incorporating that will make her happy. It might be a short reading during the ceremony, photos of loved ones on the cake table, or a bouquet toss. Involve them in the parts of planning that will feel familiar – like setting up your registry, or shopping for stationary.

The Specialist

If you are lucky enough to have a mom with a particular area of expertise – you can expect a lot of opinions. This is my mom, who is a professional photographer. While all the extra input might be overwhelming, think of this as an advantage, and accept some extra help. Let your mom take one thing off your plate, but don’t forget to voice your opinion. I put my mom in charge of booking a photographer for our big day, but before she got to work, we looked at portfolios together online so she could get a sense of the styles my fiancé and I liked. With her input we found an incredible professional at a fair price that we all loved!

The Cool Companion

Maybe she eloped for her own wedding, generally shies away from voicing her opinion, or for whatever reason doesn’t have many strong feelings about weddings. It’s great to have a laid-back confidant throughout wedding planning, but don’t let her lack of firm opinions prevent you from making memories together. Involve your mom in something activity based, where her company is more important than her input. A menu tasting, china pattern shopping, or site walk-through are all great examples. If you know you’ll be faced with some tough decisions across the day, you can also include a friend who is sure to tell it like it is. No matter what you’ll be glad you had your mother by your side for a few key events.

The Party Animal

On the other hand, there are certainly those moms who have been waiting for this moment their whole lives and intend to make it the party of the century. This is great if you also want a huge bash, but the party she has in mind may end up larger than you hoped. If you envisioned a smaller, more intimate affair, or disagree on how to spend wedding funds, the best course of action is an honest conversation. If your parents are footing some or all of the wedding bill, you may need to make some compromises, for example, on extending invitations to their friends. If you and your fiancé are covering the cost yourself, you need to stick to what you are comfortable spending. Regardless, the key is to clearly communicate what is important to you, as well as where you are, and are not, willing to compromise. Then, involve your mom in all the celebration decisions that will be right up her alley – favors, or dance playlists, for example.

Wedding Registry Trends from Food52

Original Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/typepad/style_me_pretty/~3/ntNYslDBtK4/

There are some items that are registry givens (KitchenAid mixer, we’re looking at you) but what about the trends of right here, right now? Food52 is sharing their picks that are shining extra bright for today’s brides-to-be. Some are classics that will always stand the test of time and others are just, well, extra special for 2017. Either way, they’re wedding registry winners in our books – take a look!

Long-Lasting Basics

When you find those solid workhorses for your kitchen and for your table, you don’t stray, you’ll be using these pieces forever! It’s never a bad idea to invest in the classics: cookware, tools, glassware, and dinnerware.

Mixed Metals

We’re seeing a lot of glimmer and shimmer these days – copper and brass have an old-school vintage feel while bringing a modern shine to the living room and kitchen. We’re loving it on flatware and barware.

Wood

A touch of wood (without going full on cabin-chic) brings a welcomed warmth to a new home. Sprinkle it here and there with wooden boards and generous serving bowls.

Multitaskers

With minimalism all the rage, couples are paring down their homes. Kitchen tools that multitask (like a baking steel good for the oven and the stovetop) do more while taking up less space.
